Using the S-TEC 55X Autopilot with the EXP5000

● AP (Autopilot) Mode - There are no Flight Director steering

command bars and only the AP annunciation appears on the

PFD. The autopilot flies the aircraft.

● FD (Flight Director) Mode - The Flight Director steering

command bars are green and the FD annunciation appears on

the PFD In FD mode, the command bars show you where to

steer, but you need to fly the aircraft so that the Aircraft

Reference Symbol (ARS) is tucked into the FD steering

command bars.

● AP/FD (Full Autopilot) Mode - The FD steering command bars

are magenta and both AP and FD annunciations appear on the

PFD. In AP/FD mode, the autopilot flies the aircraft, precisely

tucking the ARS into the FD steering command bars.

S-Tec 55X Horizontal Modes

The EXP5000 supports the following horizontal autopilot modes.

● Heading Capture/Hold Mode (HDG Mode) - The PFD supports

the S-Tec 55X HDG mode as follows:

■ To set the heading, on the EXP5000, press the Hdg Bug

button and rotate the right knob.

■ To engage the heading mode, on the autopilot control head,

press the HDG button.

The Heading Bug becomes solid magenta and the autopilot flies

the input heading. The autopilot control head and the EXP5000

annunciate HDG. The Heading Bug remains solid magenta until

HDG mode is cancelled. You can select a new heading at any

time while the autopilot is in HDG mode and the autopilot will fly

the new heading.

● Nav Mode - The PFD supports the S-Tec 55X NAV mode as

follows:

■ To engage the NAV mode, on the autopilot control head,

press the NAV button.

Note: A small amount of jitter in the FD steering command bars is

considered normal.

Note: The autopilot can be coupled only to a Nav source selected on

the PFD; it cannot be coupled to a Bearing source.
