5.3 Pilot Priority Switch
On dual-PFD equipped aircraft, the Pilot Priority switch mounted in
the flightdeck instrument panel allows you to inhibit the controls on
the Copilot PFD when a non-pilot is in the right-hand seat. See your
aircraft Pilot’s Operating Handbook to locate the Pilot Priority switch.
Figure 25. Uncoupled Copilot PFD
The Pilot Priority can be set as follows:
● Enabled — The Nav, Hdg Bug, Alt Bug, IAS Bug or VSI Bug, DH
Alert, and Baro Set buttons are removed from the Copilot PFD,
as shown in Figure 25. They can be controlled only from the Pilot
PFD. The copilot can see the bugs, Nav, and BARO settings on
their PFD, but cannot make changes.
Enabling Pilot Priority prevents the passenger (a child, for
example) from accidentally changing a bug, Nav, or BARO
setting and affecting the flight path. Bug values are especially
important when the Autopilot is flying the aircraft using the bugs.
● Disabled — All buttons on the copilot PFD are available,
including Nav, Hdg Bug, Alt Bug, IAS Bug or VSI Bug, DH Alert,
and Baro Set. The copilot can view and change the bugs, Nav,
and BARO settings.
